报告题目:A Re-look at Engineering Design in the Smart PSS Context

The rapid development of information and communication technologies (ICT) has enabled the prevailing digital transformation (i.e. digitalization), where physical products can be readily digitized into the virtual space and maintain seamlessly interconnected. Meanwhile, industries are ever increasingly adopting service business models (i.e. servitization), to offer not only physical products but also services as a solution bundle to meet individual customer needs. Such convergence of digitalization and servitization is named digital servitization, which represents the main trend of engineering product-service design in today’s smart, connected environment. Despite its novelty and advantage, engineering design faces several new challenges/opportunities in this context. Firstly, unlike conventional design process starts from the very beginning of lifecycle, it should be regarded as a closed-loop value generation process by taking both forward design and inverse design process into an overall consideration. Meanwhile, through high-fidelity model and real-time data from sensors, the digital twins of component, module and product levels can be readily established to support product-service family design more cost-effectively. Last but not least, enabled by the advanced ICT, users become actively engaged in the value co-creation process and their experience, i.e. user experience, drives the design innovation. Hence, design cannot solely rely on the machine intelligence or the human intelligence, novel hybrid approaches integrating both aspects should be explored and leveraged with context-awareness. This report embraces the state-of-the-art academic works, together with the speaker’s own understanding and research output, to re-look engineering design from 3 aspects accordingly: 1) Self-adaptable design theory for closed-loop design iteration. Smart connected open architecture product is defined as a proper design mechanism to enable self-adaptable design with lifecycle considerations. 2) A hybrid crowdsensing mechanism for value co-creation. It adopts the prevailing mobile crowdsensing paradigm by leveraging large-scale mobile devices and empowers users to contribute their generated/sensed data. Meanwhile, it is combined with physical sensors with static sensing nodes in the industrial environment for value co-creation purposes. 3) Data-driven design with context-awareness. By exploiting knowledge graph and graph embedding techniques, “product-service-condition” information can be readily established to trigger design innovation in a context-based or event-based manner. Based on the abovementioned theoretical contributions, several application scenarios of Smart PSS design innovations are further provided at last. It is hoped that this seminar can provide some basic knowledge and useful insights to attract audiences in their exploration and implementation in the field of Smart PSS solution design innovation process.
嘉宾简介:
郑湃博士目前是香港理工大学工业与系统工程系任助理教授。在2018年1月至2019年9月,他任职于新加坡南洋理工大学电机与电子工程学院DELTA-NTU信息物理系统联合实验室博士后研究员。其主要研究兴趣为:智能产品服务系统,数据驱动产品设计和群智感知,近五年发表了20余篇SCI期刊论文(包含2篇高被引论文)。郑博士获华中科技大学材料科学与工程和计算机科学与技术双学士学位(2010);北京航空航天大学机械工程硕士学位(2013);新西兰奥克兰大学机械工程博士学位(2017)。他是美国机械工程师协会会员 (ASME, 2017 - ),国际电气电子工程师学会会员(IEEE, 2017 - ),中国机械工程师协会工业工程分会会员(CMES, 2018 - ),也是Advanced Engineering Informatics杂志的编委,以及制造及工业工程领域重要国际期刊和会议的审稿人。
